What is the cost? TopThe basic tuition cost is approximately $595 per person, plus airfare to the training site. Do I need to rent a car? TopTransportation is provided by RFKC unless the sites are "drive to" locations which are identified. How long is the training? TopThe training officially begins with the Saturday evening Welcome Reception and Orientation, and ends with the Friday Welcome Home Dinner, concluding at approximately 6:00 pm. How much classroom time is there? TopSunday afternoon is devoted to specific child abuse training for approximately 4 hours. Monday - Thursday, 8 am – 4 pm classroom time, with break times and lunch. Camp observation times are interspersed throughout the day and evening. There is 36 hours of classroom time and 12-15 hours of observation. Do we have hands-on experience with the campers? TopNo, however, you are given the opportunity to observe counselors and staff interacting with the campers as they participate in activities, chapel times and meal time. How many, or few, people need to attend from my church? TopFor optimal success to launch a camp the following year, a group of 3-5 is recommended. At the very least two people must attend from a church. Do we find our own camping site? TopYes, but AFTER going through training, where you will learn about site selection. How do we raise the money to fund the camp? TopThat will be detailed specifically in the materials provided in Training. Where do we get the kids that will attend camp? TopFrom your county's Social Services. That process is also thoroughly reviewed in Training, including a video provided for each camp. How many kids do we start with our first year? TopIt is recommended that you start with 30 children. How many staff will we need in ratio to the kids? TopYou will need a ratio of one counselor for every two children. You will also need approximately 16 extra support staff to facilitate a well run camp. |
