Richard Berumen, Ph.D. and Sharon Berumen

Richard and Sharon Berumen began serving as RFKC Camp Directors in Tulsa, OK, and completed their eighth camp in May, 2006. Richard has spent 27 years working in the public school system with 23 years as an elementary and middle school principal. Currently, he serves as an assistant professor in the School of Education at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa. Sharon has been a Speech/Language Pathologist for 30 years, and currently works in the public schools in Tulsa.

 
 
 
 
Larry Farr

Larry Farr has served 12 of his 14 years as the Co-Director of RFKC Bellingham, WA. Professionally, Larry has been a long-term adjunct at Western Washington University, Bellingham, WA. Larry holds a BA in Psychology and Human Development and is completing a MS degree in psychology.

 
 
 
 
 
 
Dan Fong and Sandy Fong, Ph.D.

Dan and Sandy Fong have been the Directors of Royal Family Kids' Camps in Central Nebraska for three years. Dan has his Masters in Education and has been a high school English instructor for 19 years. Sandy has her Ph.D. in Sociology and has been a social work instructor at the University of Nebraska at Kearney for 12 years.

 
 
 
 
 
 
Glenn Garvin

In 1988 Glenn and his wife, Robin, established the second Royal Family Kids’ Camp, following the model already established by Wayne and Diane Tesch in Costa Mesa, CA. Glenn was the first Royal Family Kids' Camp Director to earn the "10 year Director's Award" for leading one camp for ten years. Glenn joined the national office staff of Royal Family Kids' Camps, Inc. in January, 2003, as Director of Mission Fulfillment. In this position, Glenn speaks nationwide, enlisting churches to reach out to abused children in the local community by offering a summer camp designed to meet these children's needs. Glenn also has served as Associate Pastor at Life Center, Lakewood, CA for 18 years. Glenn is a graduate of Vanguard University with a degree in Biblical Studies and has a Master's Degree in Leadership Studies. 

 
 
 
Julie Hawker

Julie attended Directors' Training in 2003. In addition, she has been a National Trainer in Training and served on her local RFKC leadership team as the camp's Dean of Women, Activity Center Coordinator, and Trainer. She is currently pursuing her Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Parks and Leisure Services - Therapeutic Recreation. She is employed by Global Oracle 11i as a Project Manager - Training and Change Management. 

 
 
 
 
 
 
 
Jeff Juhala

Jeff and his wife Janet were volunteer RFKC Camp Directors in Northern CA. for 6 years before Jeff became the Training Development Manager at the RFKC National office in September of 2006.  Jeff’s training experience includes: 15 years of safety and risk management training in the construction industry where he achieved the following: American Red Cross Instructor, OSHA 500 Outreach Trainer, Certified Safety and Health Manager (CSHM),  Professional Member of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and his Advanced Toastmaster Gold.  Jeff earned his Business Management degree from Liberty University in 1991 and is working on his Minister’s License.  Jeff has 24 years of camp experience as a camper, counselor, Director and Trainer.

 
 
 
 
John and Gael Ostenson

John and Gael Ostenson were RFKC Camp Directors for 10 years (1996-2005) in Topeka, KS. In addition, John has served as a Counselor and Gael was the Camp Social Worker and Child Placement Coordinator. John holds a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice and Gael, her Master's Degree in Social Work. Currently, John serves as a Sergeant in the Sexual Crimes Unit with the Shawnee County Sheriff's Office in Kansas. While Gael was previously employed as a school social worker, she is now working at home as a home school educator. 

 
 
 
Wayne and Diane Tesch

Wayne and Diane Tesch founded Royal Family Kids’ Camps while Wayne was serving as Sr. Associate Pastor in Southern California.

In 1985 they were challenged to launch an outreach for abused children in the local community. Wayne’s background in developing camps for a variety of church ministries as well as teaching college camp leadership courses converged with Diane’s background in fast food franchise start-up principles and the duplication process of developing a nationwide and, now, worldwide camping concept was born.

As Co-Founders of Royal Family, the Tesches continue to teach Director Training Institutes, as well as train new Trainers for the growing demand of Royal Family’s expansion.

  

John Van Wicklin, Ph.D.

John Van Wicklin is a professor of psychology at Houghton College in Houghton, NY. He has directed the Houghton RFKC since 1995. John chaired the RFKC, Inc. Camp Cabinet for 5 years. He has been both an RFKC Child Abuse Specialist and a Trainer for 8 years of Directors' Training. He has participated on RFKC, Inc. committees creating and revising curriculum, staff training manuals, and Director Training curriculum. John holds a Masters Degree from Columbia University and a Doctorate from the New School for Social Research — both degrees are in developmental psychology.

Sandy Fong has been the Director of Royal Family Kids' Camp of Central Nebraska for three years. Sandy has her Ph.D. in Sociology and has been a social work instructor at the University of Nebraska at Kearney for 12 years.

 
 
 
 
 
 
Becca Cowan-Johnson, Ph.D.

Becca Cowan-Johnson, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist, author of For Their Sake: Recognizing, Reporting, and Responding to Child Abuse, speaker, missionary, wife, and mother of 4. Dr. Johnson has worked with children, adolescents and adults who have been abused and currently serves as Consulting Clinical Psychologist/Director for AIM4Asia in Cambodia where she oversees the counseling and treatment program for girls being rescued from sexual exploitation, prostitution, and human trafficking. Becca and her family have lived and worked in Chile, New Zealand, Canada, and Costa Rica. Dr. Becca Johnson helped to begin an RFKC in Santa Cruz, CA where she served as Camp Director and Camp Psychologist for the first 3 years. Becca has taught various RFKC training sessions over the past 12 years.

Sara Swansen, Ph.D.

Sara Swansen served as RFKC Camp Director in Des Moines, IA for four years. Following her years as Director she has served as the Camp Psychologist and conducted trainings for the Des Moines camp. She has also served as the Child Abuse Specialist for Directors' Training. Sara received her Ph.D. in Psychology from Iowa State University at Ames, IA, and has worked as a Child Psychologist for 8 years at a non-profit organization in Des Moines.
